Good evening to all of our players, parents, coaches, umpires, and league volunteers. It is with deep sadness that we must announce the cancellation of the 2020 spring season for Midland Dixie Youth Baseball.
The Midland Board of Directors have spent countless hours looking for ways to carry out the season once games are allowed to be played on July, 1st. However, the uncertainty we face as a state, as a nation, and as a global community over the coming months, limited our options.
Here at Midland, our first priority is always the health and safety of all our athletes, our parents, our coaches and our league volunteers.
We looked at every alternative possible that would follow recommended prevention guidelines as outlined by the State of South Carolina, but ultimately. we believed this would not be feasible given the lack of manpower, and necessary sanitation supplies needed to be able to play.
From this situation, however, we are able to find hope for our future. With Fall Ball around the corner, we will begin preparations to open our league under the guidance of Dixie Youth Baseball, Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission, and the State of South Carolina. Part of our preparations include a limited Dixie Boys/Majors season during the month of July. During this period, we will be able to finalize our policies, and procedures using a smaller sample size. Our most sincere hope is to have these procedures perfected in time to be able to sustain a full season this fall.
While we understand that this option may not be the answer that many hoped for, rest assured that the decision did not come lightly, and was made with the health, and safety, of our entire Midland Family in mind.
Enough appreciation can never be given for the all of the volunteer hours that have been given to our park over the past 56 years. We ask for your continued patience, and support while we work towards reopening our Baseball Home.
*Follow up emails regarding refund policies, general meeting, and other information will be forthcoming.
